Big trophy waiting for big salmon captor Jan 9, 2009: After an absence of ten years, the Malloch Challenge Trophy, the most prestigious and historic trophy in the Scottish angling world, is being reinstated. From 2009 it will again be awarded annually to the angler catching the heaviest salmon of the season. The new criteria states that the fish must be caught on a fly and also that it must be released alive back into the water.

The Strath of Kildonan Gathering: Free salmon fishing on the Helmsdale Jan 2, 2009: Once more the Helmsdale River Board is offering free salmon fishing to everyone for the first three days of the 2009 season. This wonderful double bank beat lies downstream of Dalguise and above Dunkeld and comprises 15 fine pools over its 2 ¾ mile length. With a full time ghillie and new fishing cabin it boasts an average yearly catch of over 190 salmon.

Over £80,000 of fishings goes under the hammer to aid salmon research Dec 8, 2008: The biggest-ever auction of angling opportunities ever to go under the hammer in Europe has been announced by the Atlantic Salmon Trust (AST), the leading salmon research organisation. A magnificent selection of 289 lots of the best game fishing opportunities in the UK and beyond have been catalogued. This is the 23rd consecutive year of the AST’s annual auction. All the funds raised, some of which will be distributed through the AST’s partners, the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland (RAFTS) and the Association of Rivers Trusts (ART) in England and Wales, will be used to fund salmon and sea trout research.
